Information we collect
- Account information such as name, email address, authentication provider, and app user ID.
- Vocabulary content you create or import, including lists, words, meanings, examples, notes, favorites, mastery status, and practice settings.
- Photos or images you choose to analyze or save, plus AI-generated labels, translations, bounding boxes, and image memory metadata.
- Practice activity such as answers, scores, streaks, review cadence, pronunciation transcripts, and pronunciation assessment results.
- Device and app data needed for sync, reminders, diagnostics, security, and push notifications.
- Subscription information from the App Store or Google Play and RevenueCat, including product identifiers, entitlement status, renewal state, and transaction metadata.
- Support messages sent to support@vocbook.app, including email address, subject, message body, and attachments you include.
Camera, microphone, and Micro-Learn
Camera access is used for visual vocabulary capture. Microphone access is used for pronunciation practice.
On Android, optional Micro-Learn accessibility access detects launches of apps you select and shows short vocabulary challenges. It does not read screen content or automate actions in those apps.
On iPhone and iPad, optional Micro-Learn uses Apple Screen Time authorization to manage access to selected apps. A system shield directs you to open Vocbook for a learning challenge; completing it provides 30 minutes of access. Selection tokens and access-control state stay on your device in an App Group shared with the Screen Time extensions. Selected app names and tokens are not sent to our backend. Learning answers and progress may sync separately to your account.
AI and third-party processing
Photo analysis sends the photo you select and its language pair through our server to Google Gemini. Relevant word-practice features send words, meanings, and language codes to Google Gemini or Datamuse. On iOS, these flows show a sharing prompt before transmission; cancelling it prevents that transfer.
On iOS, photo and word sharing permissions can be remembered for your account on this device. You can reset them in Settings → Support & Legal → AI sharing permissions. The next relevant request will ask again. Resetting permission stops future transfers until you consent again; it does not delete data already sent. Camera, microphone, and notification access can be changed in iOS Settings; Screen Time access can be revoked in Screen Time settings.
Pronunciation assessment sends a short recording, reference text, and language code to Microsoft Azure Speech after you accept the session sharing prompt. Camera or microphone permission alone does not accept this sharing prompt.
Other providers include Firebase and Google Cloud for authentication, storage, synchronization, notifications, analytics, and diagnostics; Apple and Google for platform sign-in, payments, and notifications; RevenueCat for subscription verification and restoration; Pexels for image search; Resend for email delivery; and Vercel for this website. The data processed depends on the features you use.
How we use information
- Provide account sign-in, cloud sync, vocabulary collections, imports, sharing, and app settings.
- Generate translations, examples, similar words, synonyms, antonyms, image detections, and pronunciation feedback.
- Track learning progress, prepare daily review, personalize practice, and send reminders you enable.
- Process subscriptions, restore purchases, verify premium access, prevent abuse, and respond to support requests.
- Maintain security, troubleshoot errors, comply with legal obligations, and improve product quality.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data with service providers only as needed to operate Vocbook, comply with law, protect rights and safety, process payments, or complete a request you make.
Retention and deletion
We keep account and learning data while your account is active or as needed to provide the service. You can delete individual words and collections in the app where available. To request account deletion or broader data deletion, use Settings in the app or the delete account and data deletion pages. Some records may be retained when required for legal, tax, fraud prevention, dispute, security, or payment integrity reasons. Deleting your Vocbook account does not cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription; manage cancellation through the store that bills you.
Website cookies and analytics
This website is designed as a lightweight product and legal surface. It does not set advertising cookies by default. Vercel and basic hosting infrastructure may process request logs, IP address, user agent, and similar technical data for security, delivery, and diagnostics.
Children
Vocbook is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child provided personal information without appropriate consent, contact us and we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, restrict, or object to certain processing of your personal information. Contact us at support@vocbook.app and we will respond according to applicable law.
Changes
We may update this policy as Vocbook changes. If the update is material, we will take reasonable steps to notify users through the app, website, or email.
